Maria João Calheiros-Lobo

Biography

Maria João Calheiros-Lobo is a teacher and researcher at the IUCS-CESPU, Portugal. She obtained her PhD in Biomechanical Analysis of Monolithic Ceramics in Maxillary Lateral Incisor Agenesis Rehabilitation (Biomedical Sciences) (2024; IUCS-CESPU, Portugal). She has a multidisciplinary education with a Master's in Gerontology and Clinical Geriatrics (2000; University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain), a Degree in Medicine (1985) and Dental Medicine (1989); University of Porto, Portugal, and a Mini-Residency in Biomaterials and Adhesive Dentistry, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA (2001). She was assigned the Specialist Title in Dental Sciences in 2015 (IUCS-CESPU, Portugal), and in 2011 (IPSN- CESPU, Portugal; Egas Moniz School of Health & Science, Portugal). She has been an Invited Assistant Professor at the IUCS-CESPU since 1992, in Conservative Dentistry, Sports Dentistry, and Gerontology. Her teaching activity also extends as a Guest Lecturer to the Post-Graduate Course in Adhesive Dentistry at IUCS-CESPU, the Postgraduate Course in Endodontics, and the Postgraduate Course in Interceptive Orthodontics at the IUCS-CESPU, but also at the Postgraduate Course in Oral Esthetic Rehabilitation at the Faculty of Dental Medicine, University of Porto (2009-2012) and the Postgraduate Course in Oral and Extra-oral Rehabilitation with Osseointegrated Implants (2009-2022). She developed her activity as a researcher in collaboration with the Chemistry Department of the University of Aveiro (FCT projects: POCI/QUI/58901/ 2004; PTDC/QUI/72683/ 2006), the UNIPRO-Oral Pathology and Rehabilitation Research Unit, University Institute of Health Sciences (IUCS-CESPU), Portugal), and the Advanced Joining Processes Unit (AJPU) of the Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering (INEGI). She co-authored several articles mainly related to saliva proteomics and peptidomics, CAD-CAM dental ceramics, and dental adhesives, 21 of them in specialized journals with more than 880 Scopus citations (Scopus - Index h-12 and Index i10-13. She also co-authored 4 chapters of technical books and 3 books. She received two prizes and honors and is a member of the International Academy for Adhesive Dentistry (IAAD), the European Academy of Digital Dentistry (EADD), and the OMD Continuing Education Center 2020/2024. She has a private Dental Medicine practice (DMD) mainly in Oral Rehabilitation and Orthodontics, dedicated to esthetic smile rehabilitation, orthodontics, esthetic periodontal surgery, and implantology.
