Biography

Richard Atkinson is Emeritus Professor of Medicine and Nutritional Sciences, University of Wisconsin, Madison; Director, Virginia Obesity Research Institute, Richmond, VA; Affiliate Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA; Adjunct Professor, Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research, International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences, University of Karachi, Pakistan; and President of Obetech, LLC, Richmond, VA. He is Editor of the International Journal of Obesity; Past President of the American Obesity Association, the North American Association for the Study of Obesity (now The Obesity Society), and the American Society for Clinical Nutrition. His recent research focuses on the role of human adenovirus 36 in the etiology of obesity, diabetes, and cancer.
