Biography
Pedro Lains (Lisboa, 1959) is research professor at the Instituto de Ciências Sociais, Universidade de Lisboa, visiting professor at Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics, and member of the Instituto Laureano Figuerola of the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. He has a B.A. in Economics (Faculdade de Economia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa, 1983), a PhD in History (European University Institute, Florence, 1992); and Agregação in Economics (FE, UNL, 2001).
He was visiting professor at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Brown University, and Universidade de Évora. He was also president of the Portuguese Economic and Social History Association, director of Imprensa de Ciências Sociais, editor of Análise Social, and secretary-general of the European Historical Economics Society. Presently he is vice-director of the Instituto de Ciências Sociais.
His main research interests are Portuguese and European economic history and he is presently writing a volume on the history of Bank of Portugal (1974-2000).
He has papers published in Análise Social, European Review of Economic History, Explorations in Economic History, Historical Research, Journal of European Economic History, Journal of Iberian and Latin-America History, Open Economies Review, Research in Economic History and Scandinavian Economic History Review.
