Biography

Michael A. Becker, MD, is Professor Emeritus of Medicine at the University of Chicago. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, a Master of the American College of Rheumatology, and a member of the AAP, ASCI, and BSR. His research interests include gout and the genetics of purine metabolism. He is section editor for Crystal-Induced Arthropathies for UpToDate and was an associate editor of Arthritis & Rheumatology. Dr. Becker completed his MD at the University of Pennsylvania and residency in Medicine at Barnes Hospital/Washington University, and research associateship at NIH/NIAMD. After Rheumatology fellowship at UCSD, he was Assistant and Associate Professor of Medicine, before moving to Chicago, where he was Chief of Rheumatology from 1981 to 2000.
