Biography
Marine Lercier is a PhD candidate in Global Animal Law and a pre-doctoral Researcher at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, where she taught Animal Law and Roman Law and supervised law students’ undergraduate dissertations in Animal Law. She previously graduated with high honours with a Master’s degree in Animal Law and Society from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. She holds Master's degrees in International and European Law, International Humanitarian Law, International Criminal Law, International Human Rights Law and Transitional Justice.
Her research explores avenues for granting labour rights to non-human animal workers and conceptualises what she calls ‘Animal Labour Law’ ©. Using racehorses as a case study, she addresses some gaps in their protection, intending to safeguard horses’ fundamental interests (through a legal right to retirement) beyond their racing careers.
