Biography

Prof. Ashish Pandey is Bharat Singh, Chair Professor of the Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India, and Former Head of the Department of Water Resources Development and Management, IIT Roorkee. He holds B. Tech. and M. Tech. (Gold Medal) from CAE, Jabalpur, followed by a Ph.D. degree from IIT Kharagpur. His research interests include irrigation water management, soil and water conservation engineering, remote sensing, GIS applications, and the impact of climate change on water resources.

He supervised 18-Ph.D. and 96-M. Tech. dissertations. Dr. Pandey published 275 High Impact Journals/Conference research papers and 38 book chapters. He has co-authored three textbooks on (i) Canal Irrigation Systems in India - Operation, Maintenance, and Management (ii). Irrigation Engineering, and (iii). Introductory Soil and Water Conservation Engineering. He has also served as a lead editor of seven volumes of the Water Science and Technology Library book series for Springer Nature, Switzerland AG. Appeared in the top 2% list of scientists (2023, 2024) worldwide for research impact-based achievements in Engineering.

He has completed 20 R&D projects sponsored by various organizations in water resources, irrigation water management, and climate change. He has also completed 60 consultancy projects for multiple clients, including NTPC Ltd, WAPCOS Ltd., Ministry of Jal Shakti, Gujarat Power Corporation Ltd., Uttarakhand Irrigation Department, SJVN Ltd., M/s. Desin Pvt. Ltd., UJVNL, Dehradun, IRCTC, New Delhi, PFC Consulting Limited, New Delhi, CSPGCL, Chhattisgarh, etc.

Prof. Pandey has trained about 2000 + senior-level scientists/engineers under 46 various capacity-building programs from India and Afro-Asian Countries, Organised 71 International/National conferences /workshops, and delivered 198 invited lectures and keynote addresses.

Prof. Pandey served as the Executive Vice President of the Indian Water Resources Society (IWRS) and Chairman of the Institution of Engineers (Roorkee Local Centre). He has also served on several national committees of the government of India. He has received several national and international fellowships/awards and honors. He is a Fellow member of (1). Institution of Engineers (India); (2). Indian Association of Hydrologists (IAH) and (3). IWRS.
