Biography
Dr Suzie Gibson teaches literature at Charles Sturt University. Before her appointment at CSU, her substantial experience teaching in other tertiary institutions—University of Queensland, Griffith University, Open Universities Australia, the University of New England, Western Sydney University, the University of Technology Sydney and Macquarie University—enabled her to develop innovative and sophisticated pedagogical skills.
Dr Gibson has won many unsolicited teaching awards acknowledging her talent as an educator. She has taught overseas in Hong Kong, been an English Higher School Certificate Examiner, and also operated as a TESOL consultant. The depth and breadth of her teaching and learning is complemented by the quality and range of her publications that have regional, national and international significance.
Dr Gibson is an active researcher whose area of knowledge is cross-disciplinary. Her many publications analyze all sorts of texts and subjects that intersect with the fields of philosophy, cultural studies, film, TV, theater, fine arts and literary theory. Her research is scholarly and also targeted at wide readerships. Her ability to explain complex theoretical ideas through popular culture figures, such as James Bond and Batman (to name a few) is indicative of her skill in explaining esoteric ideas through widely recognizable characters. Moreover, her prestigious journal articles in A* publications such as Johns Hopkins University Press, Cambridge University Press, and DePaul University Press is proof of her ability to produce quality scholarship.
