Biography

Main research activities are in the fields of microbiology and molecular biology. Metabolic engineering of different microbial pathways to enhance product yields or to establish new
pathways in different microbes (bacteria, fungi) is in the focus of recent research. The
understanding of e.g. biosynthesis of microbial polysaccharides is performed by different
molecular genetically and “omics” based technologies. Screening for new enzymes in
metagenome libraries in combination with directed evolution is used to identify end
establish powerful new biocatalysts. All research is done in the fields of renewable
resources as biomass to realize new biorefinery concepts.
