Biography
Educational and Professional Experience:
After gaining his medical degree from Sultan Qaboos University, Dr. Al-Busafi completed a residency in internal medicine and gastroenterology before undertaking a fellowship in transplantation hepatology at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He is double board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology from the American Board of Internal Medicine and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. A member of numerous professional societies, Dr. Al-Busafi, is on the Education steering committee of the Oman Internal Medicine Training Program and the Oman Medical Specialty Board. He is also a member of the Scientific Committee of the Internal Medicine Training and Gastroenterology programs in the Arab Board of Health Specialization. In addition, he is Chairing or co-chairing several committees involving teaching and research at Sultan Qaboos University, the Oman Medical Specialty Board, and the Arab Board of Health Specialization. Dr. Al-Busafi is a member of the Editorial Board of the Saudi Journal of Gastroenterology.
Scholarly Interests:
Dr. Al-Busafi’s areas of research interest include acute and chronic viral hepatitis, metabolic and genetic liver diseases, cirrhosis, portal hypertension, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Dr. Al-Busafi has published more than 20 papers in peer-reviewed journals, including high-impact Journals, e.g., The Lancet Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Journal of Viral Hepatitis, and Liver International. ResearchGate (September 22, 2019) shows that my in-rank article reads are at 8,111 with an RG score of 21.3, 655 citations, and an h-index of 10. Though this tool is limited in accuracy, ResearchGate reports that site activity related to my publications is higher than 75% of its members. According to Google Scholars (September 22, 2019), the number of citations of my in-rank refereed journal articles is 819, with an h-index of 15. According to Scopus (September 22, 2019), the number of citations of my in-rank refereed journal articles is 671, with an h-index of 7.
