Biography

Müge Olğun Baytaş, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the Department of Early and Elementary Education at the Pennsylvania State University, Abington. After graduating from Dokuz Eylul University, Department of Elementary Education, in 2007, she earned her master’s degree from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the same university. She was a longtime early and elementary teacher at the International Baccalaureate schools. She received her Ph.D. degree from the Pennsylvania State University in Curriculum and Instruction Department with an emphasis in Language, Culture, and Society. She was awarded the Jeanette Rhedding-Jones RECE Outstanding Dissertation Award for her dissertation. She worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum at the University of Missouri. Her research focuses broadly on civic and citizenship education of young children, including anti-racist and anti-bias issues, literacies related to critical inquiry, and multimodal literacies and refugee education. She applies comparative, ethnographic, and qualitative research methods with a critical lens highlighting marginalized and immigrant voices.
