Biography

Cláudia Silva holds a BSc in Biochemistry (2013) from the CESPU and an MSc in Applied Biochemistry (2015) from the University of Minho. In 2022, she obtained her PhD in Metabolism - Clinical and Experimental from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP). She has developed research work in the study of diseases (cancer, diabetes, obesity) pathophysiology, and the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in the cellular uptake of nutrients, especially glucose and glutamine and how these mechanisms interfere with cancer initiation, promotion and progression. She has proven experience in different approaches such as, in vitro models (cell lines and organoids), in vivo models (animal models), in manipulation and processing biological samples (tissue, cells, plasma, urine, stool and gastric juice), clinical database analysis and still in integration and interpretation of the data obtained, using bioinformatics tools. Currently, she is a Junior Researcher at UnIC@RISE, Department of Surgery and Physiology from FMUP, where do you work on a funded project, envisioning to characterizing the microbial composition associated with early gastric cancer in Portuguese population. Since the beginning of her research career, she published 22 ISI original papers and reviews (5 as first author) and 1 book chapter (as first author), most in top journals (Q1). She also presented her work in more than 40 national and international scientific meetings. Cláudia participated in BSc juries, contributes as referee for internationals ISI indexed journals and was a member of the organizing committee of scientific events. In addition, she has been responsible for graduate and undergraduate students¿ co-supervision (10 in total). She is also invited as lecturer of practical classes of curricular unit, Animal Cell Culture, of the Doctoral Program in Metabolism - Clinic and Experimental and Master in Metabolism - Biopathology and experimental and Continuous Training Unit, at FMUP. Cláudia operates in the areas of Biological Sciences (Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Reproductive Biology and Microbiology) and Health Sciences (Pharmacology, Toxicology, Nutrition, Dietetics, Oncology, Endocrinology and Metabolism).
