Biography
Dr. Kenji Mizuguchi is Professor of Computational Biology at Institute for Protein Research, Osaka University.
His research focuses on the development of computational methods for predicting protein structure, function and interaction, as well as data integration and database development, all aiming to establish systems approaches to drug discovery. His contributions to data integration include TargertMine, an integrated data warehouse for target prioritization, and DruMAP (Drug Metabolism and pharmacokinetics Analysis Platform), which is also a basis for a collaborative data sharing program with a group of pharmaceutical companies. He has applied original predictive methods, such as FUGUE for protein structures and PSIVER for protein interaction sites, to real-life projects, and succeeded in validating potential targets and designing novel drug candidate molecules.
He was previously Director of Artificial Intelligence Center for Health and Medical Research (ArCHER), at National Institutes of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition (NIBIOHN), Japan (2019-2024), a Research Group Head at NIBIOHN (2006-2024), a University Lecturer at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (2004-2006) and a Group Leader at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Cambridge (2000-2004).
Prior to that, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Birkbeck College, University of London and at University of Cambridge (as a Long-Term Fellow of the Human Frontier Science Programme and a Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science for Young Scientists).
