Biography

MAURO VACCAREZZA graduated in Medicine with honors at the University of Genoa Medical School in July 1991.
Visiting Fellow at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Laboratory of Immunoregulation (Director: Prof. Dr. A.S. Fauci), National Institutes of Health Bethesda, USA, from February 1992 to January 1997.
Visiting Associate at the same affiliation from February 1997 to February 1999.
NIH Staff Award Winner in 1998.
Certified Board in Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at the University of Milan in Novembre 2002.
Master (M.S.) of Immunology at the Pasteur Institute in Paris (joint venture with the University Paris VII and the University of Milan-Bicocca) in July 2001.
Contract Researcher at the University of Trieste (Department of Human Normal Morphology) from 2002 to 2004.
Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Ferrara (2003-2005).
Adjunct Professor of Human Anatomy at the University of Cassino from January 2004 to February 2005.
Associate Professor of Human Anatomy (Faculty of Movement Sciences) at the University of Cassino (Department of Health and Motor Sciences) starting March, 1st, 2005, tenured starting March 1st, 2008.

Main scientific interests: morphologic and functional analysis of lymphocyte subpopulations in normal and pathologic conditions, studies on human hematopoiesis in vitro and its regulation by cytokines, studies on fat tissue alterations in subjects under antiretroviral therapy, studies on the effects of molecules of the TNF-alfa super-family on the growth and differentiation of human cell populations (leukocytes, endothelial cells, myoblasts and myocytes), science of learning and anatomy education
