Biography

In my work, I place particular emphasis on the interconnection of history with cultural anthropology and visual and textual studies. My research is centred on transcultural phenomena in early modern history (history of mobilities, translation history, gift exchange, correspondence networks etc.). My past publications include for example the edition of the German diary kept by the Silesian noble woman Gabriela Sobková of Kornice (co-edited with Veronika Marková) or a monograph on the mendicant order of the Servants of Mary (Servi di Maria) as an early modern imagined community. In 2015/2016, I completed a research grant project that resulted in my habilitation monograph on textual practices, material culture and cultural exchange of the Sweerts-Sporck family in the eighteenth century. I have published broadly in international academic journals, including the European Review of History / Revue européenne dʼhistoire, Austrian History Yearbook and Saeculum – Jahrbuch für Universalgeschichte. In 2012 and 2014 I was a Visiting Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence. During the 2018-2019 academic year, I held the position of Visiting Fellow at the University of Cambridge, Trinity Hall. Between September and December 2022, I was a Visiting Scholar at the Faculty of History, University of Cambridge. In 2024, I was awarded the 4EU+ Visiting Professorship at the University of Heidelberg (DE). I serve as a reviewer for Oxford University Press and as a member of the editorial board of the Brill book series "Translating Cultures in the Early Modern World" (https://brill.com/page/419582). I am also an Expert Evaluator in the Research, Development and Innovation Council, a professional consultancy body of the Government of the Czech Republic. I have also served as a working group leader in the COST Action Women on the Move (i.e. European Cooperation in Science and Technology Research Network that focused on the history and memory of women migrants).
I welcome inquiries from prospective doctoral students interested in working in the fields of early modern transcultural history (gift exchange and patronage, translation history, history of mobilities, correspondence networks), early modern personal writing, print culture, visual and material culture and related areas.
