Biography

Prof. Dr. Eng. Habib Ben Bacha, full Professor of Mechanical Engineering, at Engineering School of Sfax (ENIS), University of Sfax - Tunisia. Currently Associate Professor at Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University (PSAU), College of Engineering at Alkahrj - Saudi Arabia. Head of Department of M.E.D at PSAU (2008-2018). Manager of training at the ENIS (2005-2007). Elected as a member of the scientific council of the ENIS (2002-2005). He received his Bachelor of Science in Electro-Mechanical Engineering in 1987 from Sfax University, Master of Science in Electric Machines and Power Systems in 1992 and Doctorate PhD in Automatic Control in 1996 from Tunisia University, and Academic Habilitation Degree (HDR) in Mechanical Engineering in 2004 from Sfax University. Head of Team “Renewable Energy, Desalination and Maintenance” at the LASEM Laboratory (Laboratory of Electro-Mechanical Systems) - ENIS, University of Sfax (1999 – 2017). Consultant member at the LEEE Laboratory (Laboratory of Water, Energy and Environment) - ENIS, University of Sfax (1999 - 2007). He has over 27 years’ experience in various aspects of applied solar energy: desalination and air conditioning by solar energy. He has worked on a wide variety of applied solar energy projects over a period of many years. His scientific activities and production include advisement for several students in mechanical engineering (Master and Doctorate level students) and more than 100 of articles published in ISI ranked journals and presented in international conferences.
In 2011, Dr. Habib received the scientific research award (Ranked 2nd) of Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University. His work contains a combination of experimental and numerical modelling systems.
He has been serving on the scientific committees of numerous national and international conferences and has been organizing workshops, seminars and various national and international conferences in the field.
He has been serving as a reviewer of many scientific journals in desalination and renewable energy areas.
He is a Fellow of many national and international professional organizations such as American Society of Mechanical Engineers ASME and World Renewable Energy Network WREN.
In addition to his research, Dr Habib is active in teaching topics in Mechanical Engineering, he has developed both undergraduate and graduate curricula covering mainly series of courses and labs including: Water Desalination, Dynamic Systems and Control, Heat Transfer, Mechatronics, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Thermodynamics, Industrial Maintenance, Instrumentation of industrial systems, and Renewable Energy & desalination systems. He has supervised over 20 MSc and PhD students, and plus 120 undergraduate thesis students.
His research interests encompass a number of related areas, including mainly: Desalination, Renewable Energy (Solar energy application for water desalination and air conditioning: Modeling, Simulation and Experimental Studies), and Maintenance & Availability modeling.
He has participated in the establishment of many research projects in Tunisia such as “Water Desalination by Solar Energy" (1994/1998), (2004/2007), (2010/2012), "Solar Cooling" (2003/2006), (2008/2009); Tunisian - French research cooperation (1999/2001), Tunisian - German research cooperation (1994/1998) and (2014/2016), and in Salman Bin Abdulaziz University - Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has participated in two research projects dealing in the same research area (2011/2012) and (2020/2021). The main techniques that have been studied and developed deal about desalination using the principle of humidification-dehumidification, solar still production, and solar driven membrane distillation. For the air conditioning the method that have been studied deals about solar powered air conditioning systems based on adsorption technique.
