Biography
Irene Ponzo is Deputy Director of FIERI (Forum Internazionale ed Europeo di Ricerche sull’Immigrazione - International and European Forum for Migration Research) and contributed to its foundation in 2002.
She holds a Degree in Political Science and a PhD in Comparative Social Research from the University of Turin (Italy).
Since its foundation in 2004 she has been an active member of the largest academic network on migration in Europe, i.e. IMISCOE Research Network on “International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion in Europe”, and is a member of its Editorial Committee.
In 2018 she participated in the IVLP (International Visitor Leadership Program) of the Department of State.
Her main research interests concern integration policies and asylum governance, with a prevailing focus on the local level and multilevel dynamics. She has also worked extensively on the inclusion of migrants and refugees, paying a specific attention to the effects of economic recessions. She has participated in several EU-funded projects, both research-focused and policy-oriented, and has published books and articles with international publishers.
