RESEARCH INTERESTS. I am an economic historian with a special expertise in banking & financial history and macroeconomic history. My approach combines economic theory, historical and institutional analysis, and empirical methods. My original research contributions deal with different aspects of financial history of the 19th and 20th centuries. They include the re-emergence of capital mobility and international money markets under Bretton Woods, multinational banking during the First Globalization, the role of corporate governance in the interwar crisis of Italian universal banks, the political economy of financial regulation and reforms in Southern Europe since 1945, the allocative efficiency of the Italian banking system, and the historical development of capital markets in Spain in the 20th century. Other contributions focus on the historical development of macroeconomic policies in Western Europe after 1945, with a special focus on the connection between tax capacity, fiscal policy and the regulation of the financial system.
PUBLICATIONS I published articles in Web of Science economic history journals (European Review of Economic History, The Economic History Review, Cliometrica, Financial History Review), and book chapters and co-edited volumes with top international publishers (Oxford UP, Cambridge UP, Springer, Routledge). I also published books and book chapters on Italian economic history with leading Italian publishers (Laterza, Il Mulino, Einaudi) and articles in Italian history and business history journals (Studi Storici, Italia Contemporanea, Annali di Storia dell'Impresa).
INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATIONS. Over the course of my academic career I participated in various Europe-wide research networks.
