Michael Saunders specializes in numerical optimization and matrix
computation. He is coauthor of many software packages for large-scale
optimization and for iterative solution of sparse linear equations.
He is a Research Professor at Stanford University in the Dept of
Management Science and Engineering (MS&E), and a member of the Systems
Optimization Laboratory (SOL) and the Institute for Computational and
Mathematical Engineering (ICME) at Stanford. In 2007 he was elected
Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand, and in 2012 he
was inducted into the Stanford University Invention Hall of Fame.
