Biography

Graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1987), Master's (1994) and Doctorate (2003) in Philosophy from the same university. Currently is Adjunct Professor II at the University of Vale do Rio dos Sinos (Unisinos) and professor of the Postgraduate Program in Philosophy at this university and professor in undergraduate courses in philosophy and medicine at Unisinos. He is emergency physician at the Hospital de Pronto Socorro (Porto Alegre / RS). He was elected counselor of the Regional Council of Medicine (CREMERS) from 2003 to 2008. He is a member of the Research Ethics Committee of Hospital Mãe de Deus. He has experience in the area of ​​Philosophy, with an emphasis on Ethics, working mainly in the subjects: general ethics and metaethics, practical ethics, including bioethics and medical ethics, political philosophy, philosophy of law and philosophical theory of rights humans. In the field of applied philosophy, in addition to the philosophy of medicine, he also has publications and studies in the philosophy and ethics of sports. He is also interested in philosophy of mind and currently studies the concept of person. He studies subjects in the philosophy of medicine, with a focus on the philosophy of the person-centered approach healthcare). He has published articles in international journals such as the Journal of Medicine and Philosophy and the Journal of Evaluation in Clinical Practice. As a doctor he is specialist in Pediatrics and Family Medicine, and also works in the area of ​​homecare. He is the author of the book Fundamental Bioethics (2002). he contributed with chapters in books by international publishers such as Wiley Blackwell and Open Court. He is a member and current coordinator of the ANPOF Ethics WG. Was associated with Hume Society and SAP (Society for Applied Philosophy). He serves as an Individual Partner of The Collaborating Center for Values-based practice in Health and Social Care, at Oxford University (St Catherine's College Oxford). He was a Plumer Visiting Fellow at Saint Anne's College, University of Oxford (UK) (2012-13), with a post-doctoral internship funded by CAPES. He is a PQ2 researcher at CNPq.
