Biography
Hariom Yadav, PhD, an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery and Brain Repair, and Director of USF Center for Microbiome Research at University of South Florida (USF), Tampa, FL. His research group is investigating the role of gut microbiome and its modulators (probiotics/prebiotics) to ameliorate aging-related diseases via modulating gut-brain axis. His current research projects include i.e. 1) Contribution of gut microbiome and probiotics/prebiotics on gut-brain axis via modulating incretin and enteric nervous system biology to regulate energy metabolism in obesity, diabetes and aging, 2) Development of short-chain fatty acid-producing probiotics and prebiotics to ameliorate metabolic diseases and aging related ailments, and 3) Establishing microbiome-drug interactions to modulate host metabolism and drug efficacy. Dr. Yadav graduated from National Dairy Research Institute, India in 2006, and received postdoctoral training at National Institute of Health (NIH), Bethesda, Maryland, USA since 2007-2012. In past his work involved in the interactions of different metabolic organs like gut, adipose tissue, liver, muscles, pancreas and brain to regulate whole body energy homeostasis to benefit obesity and diabetes. He has published over 120 peer-reviewed papers. Currently, his lab is using modern technologies i.e. metagenomics analyses, bioinformatics pipelines, cell culture systems, microbiological systems, artificial gut to culture microbiome, transgenic and germ-free mice models with fecal microbiome transplantation and metabolic phenotyping approaches to address these hypotheses. His lab is making several prototypes of microbiome based products for industrial partnerships.
