Biography

Prof. Elliot Mbunge is a distinguished academic, researcher, and innovator specializing in Information Technology, with a PhD from Durban University of Technology, South Africa. My expertise lies in artificial intelligence, applied machine learning, health informatics, and ICT for development (ICT4D). I have made significant contributions to academic and institutional advancement including the successful development of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. My commitment to education is evident in developing study materials for part-time and distance learners to ensure access to quality education. As a mentor, I have supervised numerous postgraduate students, guiding them through cutting-edge research in big data analytics, predictive modelling and healthcare optimization. Many of their projects have resulted in publications in DHET-listed journals reflecting academic rigour and societal relevance. My research activities have been recognized globally, with multiple awards, including the IEEE Best Paper Award on machine learning applications in healthcare and other domains.

Prof. Mbunge has been a key contributor to international research initiatives funded by esteemed organizations such as the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). These projects have addressed critical issues like financial inclusion and digital transformation in education, further cementing my role as an innovation and sustainable development leader. My publications have garnered over 2,800 citations and high h-index values on Google Scholar, Web of Science and Scopus. This highlights the global impact of my work. In addition to my research, I serve as an Academic Editor for Human Behavior and Emerging Technologies, Health Informatics Journal and as a peer reviewer for several Scopus-indexed journals. I have actively participated in international conferences and workshops, such as Deep Learning IndabaX and ICTAS to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange within the academic and professional communities.
