Biography
Dr. Aleksandar Milicevic was born in 1987 in Aleksandrovac, Republic of Serbia. He is a Senior Research Associate in the Laboratory for Thermal Engineering and Energy of the "VINČA" Institute of Nuclear Sciences - National Institute of the Republic
of Serbia, University of Belgrade. He graduated at the Thermal Engineering Department, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Belgrade, in 2011. During all years of study, he received awards for the best students on the occasion of the day of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade. In 2018, he got Ph.D. degree with the thesis entitled “Mathematical modelling and optimization of processes in a pulverized coal-fired furnace during direct co-firing with biomass”, at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade.
His investigations focus on mathematical modeling and software development for simulation, analysis and optimization of (co)combustion of pulverized fuels (coal and biomass) in coal fired utility boiler furnaces and other energy conversion systems, in order to improve energy efficiency, reduce pollutants emission and technology transfer to end-users.
Research topics and activities:
• Modeling of two-phase turbulent reactive flows;
• Development and application of CFD codes/software to predict processes in fuel-fired furnaces;
• Modeling of (co)combustion of coal and biomass;
• Simulation and optimization of processes and energy systems;
• Environmental engineering;
• Clean coal technologies focused on NOx/SO2/CO2 reduction;
• Machine learning in Energy and Thermal Engineering.
The Society of Thermal Engineers of Serbia has granted him the award for the best graduate (M.Sc.) work at all technical faculties in Serbia in 2011, according to the “Energy day Serbia 2012”.
In 2020, the University of Belgrade and the Đoka Vlajković Foundation awarded him for the best scientific work of young scientists from the University of Belgrade in 2019 (for the article : https://doi.org/10.1016/j.apenergy.2019.114206).
In 2022, the University of Belgrade and the Đoka Vlajković Foundation awarded him for the best scientific work of young scientists from the University of Belgrade in 2021 (for the article : https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ijheatmasstransfer.2021.121728).
He is a Principal Investigator on the granted project entitled "Development of artificial intelligence models for predicting the emission of pollutants from the thermal power plant "Kolubara" based on experimental investigations" (Ref.: 00123168/01-04), on the Public Call on 2022 for the Improvement of Cooperation Between Science and Economy in the Field of Circular Innovations - CIRCULAR VOUCHERS, financial supported by the Global Environment Fund (GEF) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Ministry of Environmental Protection. The project was proposed by the "VINČA" Institute of Nuclear Sciences - National Institute of the Republic of Serbia, University of Belgrade, as the project holder with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade in the Consortium with Public Enterprise ”Electric Power Industry of Serbia” (JP EPS) as business sector.
With colleagues from the accredited Laboratory, he participated in conducting complex thermotechnical tests at domestic and foreign thermal power plants in cooperation with very reputable companies in the field of energy (ЈP ЕPS, General Electric, Mitsubishi Hitachi, Siemens, Rafako), as well as on the internationally laboratory testing "Proficiency testing of air emissions" 2019. and 2021. at the Talum Institute (Slovenia).
He was hired as an expert by KfW Bankegruppe on the International Project “Environmental Measures in Lignite Fired Power Plants”, 2020.
He has published more than 80 publications, including papers in leading international journals. He is a member of the Society of the Thermal Engineers of Serbia. He has achieved international cooperation with the renowned Xi'an Jiaotong University from China.
He is a reviewer of more than 230 papers for numerous international scientific journals (Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews, Applied Energy, Energy Conversion and Management, Journal of Energy Chemistry, Journal of Cleaner Production, Energy, Fuel, Applied Thermal Engineering, Fuel Processing Technology, Journal of the Energy Institute, Process Safety and Environmental Protection, Thermal Science and Engineering Progress, Thermal Science...).
He was a reviewer for international grant proposal projects (for Republic of Poland, Slovak Republic, Republic of Cyprus, Republic of Lithuania).
He was awarded with the “Excellent reviewer” by the journal editors at Publons.
