Biography
Prof. Jin Wang received M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from Newcastle University, UK in 1989 and 1994, respectively. He is Professor of Marine Technology, Director of the LOOM Research Institute and Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at LJMU. He has completed the supervision of 60 PhD (30 as the main supervisor) and 15 postdoctoral researchers in the areas of maritime system design and operation. Prof. Wang’s technical publications include 2 research monographs, 7 book chapters and 200 SCI-cited journal papers. An analysis of all journal papers on the topic of “Maritime Safety” published since 2000 in the ISI Web of Knowledge indicates that Prof. Wang is the author with the highest number of publications. Prof. Wang’s publications relating to maritime and offshore safety have been widely cited in the ISI Web of Knowledge (h-index 50 and over 8,000 citations). He has been the PI or co-ordinator for 7 UK Research Council grants and 4 EU research projects. He has also been the PI at LJMU for multi-partner consortia delivering 4 EU research grants and 30 other external grants. He has won several awards for his research work including 2 Denny Medals from the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) in 2004 and 2008. He has been a keynote speaker of 20 international conferences such as ESREL, and chaired 10 international conferences/workshops.
