Research Activities
• Current: Neuroimmune interactions in the auditory system under normal and pathological conditions. Using tissue clarification methods on intact brain and temporal bone preparations from animal models, surface connections between the choroid plexus and cochlear nuclei are observed. After cochlear damage, macrophages accumulate in a position consistent with their modulation of transmission in the molecular layer of the dorsal cochlear nucleus, whose structure is similar to that of the cerebellar cortex. Since the dorsal cochlear nucleus appears to be involved in tinnitus onset, the effects of choroid plexus interactions are being studied in a murine tinnitus model.
• Previous: Chemotherapeutic action of fluoroquinolone derivatives with photodynamic activity. Effect of raw and purified extracts of natural substances and their neosynthetic derivatives on mutagenesis, carcinogenesis, and cardiovascular diseases: studies on action mechanisms related to alterations in redox status and other pathogenetic mechanisms.
