Biography
J. Cho (Hyun Jung Cho) is Professor of Integrated Environmental Science at Bethune-Cookman University, Daytona Beach, Florida. She has a Ph.D. in Conservation Biology and an M.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of New Orleans (UNO) and a BS in Biology from Sung-shin Women's University, Seoul, Korea. After completing her Ph.D., she continued her postdoctoral research at the Estuarine Research Lab of UNO. She has held faculty positions in environmental science at Jackson State University and Bethune-Cookman University for over 20 years. Her research includes coastal restoration and resilience as well as satellite-based water and coastal resource assessments. She serves as a Chair of the Place-based Conservation thematic area of the NOAA Center for Coastal and Marine Ecosystems, a consortium of 6 universities. She also leads a three-university consortium of NASA-funded Institute of Environmental Intelligence for Advanced Space-based Earth Sciences.
She has served Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-PI of 45 projects of nearly $80 million: Funding from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), National Estuary Program (NEP), National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), Office of Naval Research (ONR), National Science Foundation (NSF), Sea Grant programs, and several US State/public grants and contracts.
She is the author/editor of over 80 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and books.
