Biography
I am an up-and-coming elasmobranch researcher at Boston University with a passion for animal welfare. Since my freshman year at BU, I have held an undergraduate research position in Professor Phillip Lobel's Fish Lab, where I completed my honor's thesis: "An Examination of the Effects of Penetrative Tagging Methodologies on Elasmobranchs". I have previously held an internship as an aquarist in the temperate gallery at the New England Aquarium in Boston. I have also tagged Floridian elasmobranch species with the Coastal Marine Education Research Academy in Clearwater, Florida. From these experiences, I have become heavily invested in researching elasmobranch welfare.
I want to use my research to raise awareness of the nociceptive capabilities and possible pain perception in elasmobranch fishes so as to promote the collection of high quality data. My current research uses comparative anatomy of different elasmobranch species in order to identify nociceptive system deviations between species.
