Biography

Ljiljana Vukota was born in 1960, graduated in psychology from the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. She worked in professional positions in the Ministry of Justice and retired from the position of head of sector in the Directorate for the Prison System. Immediately after the establishment of the association SVE for NJU in 2008, she joined the Association's team and to this day, as a psychologist, she conducts individual counseling for cancer patients. She established the Center for Psychological Assistance in 2010 and was the head of the Center until 2023. At the same time, she holds the office of the main secretary of the Association. She is a member of the Croatian Psychological Society, the Croatian Psychological Chamber, the European Society for Medical Oncology and the International Psycho-Oncology Society, the Committee for Coordination of the Implementation of the National Program for the Early Detection of Cervical Cancer and the Committee for Monitoring the Process of Prevention, Diagnostics and Treatment in the Healthcare System in the Field of Oncology in post COVID period. She actively participated in the creation of the National Strategic Framework against Cancer until 2030 as the coordinator of the Working Group for Psychological Support, Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Cancer Patients.
She received the "Pride of Croatia" award for her contribution to the promotion of genetic testing for the BRCA gene, and she received the "Golden Coat of Arms" award of the Croatian Psychological Society for her contribution to the promotion of psycho-oncology. She is the author of chapters in several books, an active participant in expert meetings in the field of oncology and psychology, in public appearances she advocates the needs of cancer patients and the integration of psycho-oncology care into the treatment process and the provision of psychosocial support as an integral part of supportive and comprehensive care for cancer patients, family members and caregivers.
