Biography
Haruka Kokaze is pursuing a Master of Arts in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness at New York University. She works as a substance abuse counselor intern at Weill Cornell Medicine for her clinical internship. Raised in Tokyo, New York, Houston, and London, her diverse background supports her desire to become a transnational bilingual psychologist, advocating on behalf of Japanese and Japanese American communities to provide culturally relevant mental health care. Haruka is involved in various research labs at New York University, Columbia University, and Stanford University. Her research focuses on workplace mental health, race-based traumatic stress in Asian Americans, global perspectives on eating disorders, structural stigma in news media coverage of the US opioid crisis, and cancer stigma amongst people living with HIV in Vietnam. Recently, Haruka has partnered with Pasona NA, a multinational HR consulting firm, to publish monthly Japanese articles focused on mental health for Japanese expatriates in the U.S.
