Biography
I resolutely distanced myself from those who remarked, “You are not a medical student. What could you possibly achieve?” While I don’t hold their views against them, I recognize that such a mindset is typical in many Asian cultures, where fields like medicine, engineering, and law are often considered the pinnacle of academic and professional success. I, however, chose Biotechnology as my path, driven by my unwavering passion for Genetics, Cancer Biology, and a relentless curiosity to explore groundbreaking research.
My academic interests have led me to seize numerous opportunities, allowing me to present my ideas at prestigious platforms such as the Falling Walls Lab in Malaysia, where I first presented my research concept on curing Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. My early exposure to the CRISPR gene-editing tool, through a hands-on gene knockout workshop, further fueled my enthusiasm for the field.
This dedication to research propelled me through my PhD, where I collaborated with my team to test novel synthesized compounds against Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC), ultimately leading to the successful filing of a patent for these compounds in 2024. In parallel to my doctoral research, I have actively mentored students on various research projects funded by both government and private sector grants, covering diverse fields such as microbiology, phage trials, animal studies, and cell line-based research.
Beyond academia, I am also a dedicated state Taekwondo athlete and a registered black belt fighter under Taekwondo Malaysia. Following in the footsteps of my family, I am an avid long-distance runner, participating in numerous championships while maintaining a regular training routine.
I remain open to new opportunities that will broaden my knowledge and skills across various fields. I would be delighted to engage in meaningful scientific discussions or explore potential collaborations. Please feel free to reach out to me via email.
