Biography

I am a local historian and final-year PhD student. My research traces the continuities of welfare policies and provisions available to persons with disabilities within Lancashire from the English Poor Law of 1601. In doing so, it examines their influence on constructing a social hierarchy of entitlement that would underpin the care available to disabled servicemen with mental health (dis)orders and blindness in Lancashire between 1914 and 1921.

I am also a seminar tutor and guest lecturer on the BA History, 'Shock City' Manchester and the Birth of a Modern World 1750-1850 and Radical Manchester 1850-2000 units at Manchester Metropolitan University.

PhD thesis title:
The Continuity of Poor Law Policy: A Hierarchy of Undeserving and Deserving First World War Disabled Ex-Servicemen in Lancashire,
